About the faith
We do not have a Patent to being Asatru. Asatru is a faith, Forn Siðr is a religious community.
The Asatru faith may be interpreted many ways.
In Forn Siðr we have agreed on a basis of faith that describes how we interpret Asatru in Forn Siðr. This statement of a basis of faith is a poetic definition of our faith and outlook on life. As a member of Forn Siðr one acknowledges this description as fitting.
There are Asatru in Denmark who disagree either with this basis of faith or the way the community is organised. Some are of the opinion that there is no need for any form of central organisation in Asatru. There is a great variety of opinion in Asatru; several other Asatru communities have been started in Denmark. We have links to some of them.
Forn Siðr is however the only Asatru organisation, in Denmark, that has received official approval as a religious community, with all that this implies.
The Asatru faith is growing strongly. Our gods, jætter, dwarfs, elves, and trolls are familiar concepts for most Scandinavians. Many Pagan elements have survived in Folk belief. Asatru is more than just this however, A tribute to both the Sun and the Moon, gratitude to the spirits of the land, and fellowship with nature, on which we all depend, and not least a way of life that is responsible to oneself and one’s fellow humans.
There are Asatru communities in all the Scandinavian counties, with the exception of Finland. We know of Asatru organisations in, Holland, Germany, France, England, Italy, Russia, and the USA, we have links to some of these.
